Philly Fellows is designed to be more than just a connection to a great job for a year. Our goal is for the fellows to develop more skills and engage with the nonprofit sector and the city as a whole more deeply than they would have in a typical entry-level nonprofit job.

In addition to support from the Philly Fellows staff and opportunities at their own agencies, fellows will have regular opportunities to participate in the following programming:

Professional Development Workshops

These workshops are an opportunity for the fellows to build specific skills related to nonprofit and community work. We bring the fellows together once a month for these half-day workshops that together comprise our own “Nonprofit 101.” The knowledge the fellows build will help them become more effective at their host agencies as well as help prepare them for future leadership positions in public service after the fellowships end.

Training from LaSalle University’s Nonprofit Center

Philly Fellows has also partnered with the LaSalle Nonprofit Center to allow fellows to take 2 additional courses or day long seminars from LaSalle’s Certificate in Nonprofit Management.

Leadership Development Dinners

Each month, Philly Fellows invites a civic leader from the region to join the fellows for an informal dinner. These sessions are a chance for the fellows to meet and learn from some of the city’s most dynamic leaders in a wide variety of fields that relate to both their current and future jobs.

Mentoring from our network of over 150 alumni

Our alumni volunteer their time and expertise to partner with our fellows and serve as their mentors throughout their fellowship. Current fellows and alumni of the program coordinate to meet and discuss and support the professional development of the fellows.
