Looking back: 2016 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ’s legacy, volunteers across the country made #MLKDay a day on, instead of a day off, to strengthen their communities. Our Philly Fellows were no exception! The Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service is the largest King Day event in the nation, so there were plenty of service opportunities across the city for the Philly Fellows to join in on with their host agencies and with other organizations. Photo courtesy of the South Philly Review Philly Fellow Hannah Armbruster was one of our fellows serving with her host agency. Hannah, who serves [...]

Ready, Willing & Able Philadelphia celebrates its 15th Anniversary

We love to highlight the work that our Philly Fellows are doing for their host agencies. While no two days are alike, the "Day in the Life" blog post series aims to highlight the types of projects and events that our members work on. This post was written by EboniJoi McNeill, who is currently serving as the Community Outreach Associate at Ready, Willing & Able Philadelphia. To celebrate our 15th anniversary, Ready, Willing & Able (RWA) launched the 2016 Men in Blue of Philadelphia photo series that highlights the narratives of men who have either graduated or are presently in the program. Currently in [...]

Giving Thanks

We are grateful year-round for our wonderful fellows, their host agencies, and all of the partners who enable our program to be successful, but Thanksgiving is a special time of year to show gratitude. We asked our Philly Fellows what they're thankful for at this time of year, with their responses varying from the simple things they enjoy about life in Philadelphia to reflections based on their service experiences. Here's what they have to say:   "I'm thankful for my family and friends. I'm thankful to be able to do interesting and meaningful work at a non-profit my first year out of [...]

Philly Fellows Leadership Development: Exploring opportunities

On a typical weekday, our Philly Fellows are working at their individual nonprofit placements, but twice each month we bring the entire cohort together for our two event series: Leadership Development Dinners and Professional Development Workshops. Last month, we were excited to host two events that focused on exploring opportunities in our fellows' current roles and future careers. Here's a quick recap of these events: Professional Development Workshop- First up for our October events was a workshop led by Hillary Blecker from The Blue Door Group, along with Tchet Dereic Dorman of Pyramid Consulting Services, to facilitate a dialogue around diverse social identities in the workplace. The workshop focused on raising self-awareness [...]

"In the News" page If you've visited the Philly Fellows website over the past year, you've probably noticed many changes we've implemented as we work to better highlight the program, our fellows, and our host agencies. Philly Fellows is on its 10th cohort, so there's been a lot written to showcase the work being done through our program. Visit the page and check [...]
