Although it’s been awhile since we’ve had a new blog post, this summer has been busy with activity at Philly Fellows! After saying goodbye to our 2015-2016 fellows, we welcomed our newest cohort for move-in to the Philly Fellows houses on July 17. With the new fellows’ move-in date falling on the same day as move-out for our previous fellows, there was a lot happening at once. However, everyone arrived ready to adapt and “get things done” (in traditional AmeriCorps style!), so this new cohort got off to a great start.
After attending AmeriCorps VISTA Pre-Service Orientation (PSO), the new fellows joined our staff for several days of training to prep them for work with our nonprofit host agency partners. After plenty of icebreakers, policy reviews, teambuilding activities, and presentations on nonprofits and Philadelphia history, the fellows were ready to have a successful first day of work on July 26. Our orientation activities concluded by bringing everyone together again after that first day for a celebratory happy hour with Philly Fellows staff and alums.
This group is already off to a great start in their first few weeks, and we’re excited to still have another 11 months to work with them! The diverse backgrounds and experiences that these fellows bring to the table will surely help them as they work to expand their host agencies’ capacities.
Want to learn more about our newest fellows and their host agencies? Check out our Current Fellows and Current Placements pages to get a quick glimpse. In the coming months, we’ll also be bringing more “Meet Our Fellows” and “Day in the Life” features your way so that you can get to know our fellows and read about the projects they are working on for their host agencies. We’re excited to share the great work they’re doing!
